Ooooh new stuff coming soon (we also have a new cron thingamabobber :D)
But, this is quite an important issue for both new and experienced webmaster: affiliation. Affiliation is the act of mutual linking: in other words, you and another website both put up links to each other to increase traffic flow (hits) between the two.
You can't, however, go about putting up links to any site you come across and calling them affiliates. It's likely to make the owner of that site angry, and maybe even put your website on a Wall of Shame of sorts. So, if you'd like to affiliate with somebody, the first step is to go to their website. Look around for a link on the site saying "Affiliate," "Affiliation," or maybe even "Link to Us." Read over their rules, and make sure to respect them. If your website doesn't make it up to their standards, don't ask them anyways: they'll almost undoubtedly have to send you back an awkward reply explaining how you haven't had the rules, or that they "like your website but it doesn't apply to our rules," or something like that.
What if they don't have an affiliate page? Then they probably don't have affiliates. If you DO see affiliates on their page, then go ahead and send them a polite email inquiring if they're interested in affiliating.- You get hooked up with cool people and make friends!
- Affiliates generally share ideas and give each other healthy competition.
- Increase both of your hits!
- Try to send them an email, rather than an automated affiliate request form.
- Make sure both your request and website provide a wealth of valuable information with good grammar and spelling.
- UGLY LAYOUTS account for 99% of why someone won't affiliate! Get a pretty, attractive, unique layout!
